The Parlor
This quiet space with a view of the river is filled with historical photographs and memorabilia of the Barnard Family including the 1800 cash register from The Barnard and Grant Mercantile store! Comfortable seating provides an area for gatherings and conversation among the hand painted wall designs. Our cool pennant paint details highlight the space and wrap you in a unique atmosphere!.
The Study
Uniquely decorated, this creative room is playfully collaged with the Barnard’s books in disrepair and sheet music, offers itself for reading, relaxing or TV. The funky red Victorian sofa and Zebra wingback seating welcome our guest to enjoy the collection of books and reading material which spans history, culture and the environment of the area. Chill awhile in the decor- our homes over all theme is, " Hippie Meets History" since most of our guest are "Baby Boomer's!" Folks are usually busy outdoors but we do have a TV in the Study with many cable channels.
The Eating Room
A bright room to enjoy your breakfast with a fantastic view of the Allegheny river and mountainside. Our nostalgic 1930’s dining room decor , vintage linens and fun miss matched china starts your day with a smile! Everyone finds a memory from the past while they enjoy their heart felt meal of garden grown veggies and herbs from the gardens surrounding the home. Dine in the "Nook" a glass bump out in the homes design- where a spinning wheel once sat!
OUTDOOR COMMON AREAS
The Front Porch:
The large front porch is filled with comfortable seating covered with old rag rugs! Sit,and watch the lazy river pass by.No matter the season - the porch is filled with unique plantings and natures offerings.During the warmer seasons we fill the space with our fresh herbs and crafty pots brimming with lush plantings to surround you in green bliss.Cooler months are colors of Autumn or Winter's crisp pines and berries.
The Gardens:
Being gardener's by trade, we grow Heirloom seedlings to create a colorful garden to welcome our guest. Sunflower, Zinnia,Celosia, Cosmo, Amaranth, Flowering Tobacco and many other varieties of flower's from the past that can not be purchased in most nurseries.The air fills with scent and the pollinator's enjoy the nectar. We grow many of the vegetables that come to your table and the eatable flowers grace every breakfast plate!
These spaces provide time to enjoy the unique features found within our colorful landscaping which is filled with recycled elements and garden creation's like our steel bed, Victorian gate and our beautiful gardens that cover every nook and cranny of the peaceful space.Recycled items abound as Cathy enjoys recycled art! From bottle fence to cool bottle walls there is so much to look at and enjoy.You will find an old fashion Sears parlor stove nestled in the garden along with some - Down the Rabbit Hole magic!
"Trail Garden Patio":
The patio offers our guest a view of the Allegheny River while dining or relaxing at the many bistro tables. We can SEAT 25 persons! Lined with farm house stone the terraced brick patio creates a beautiful back drop for any special occasion or small event. The quirky exterior restroom with a bottle back splash, 1800 sink and collaged walls provides invited guest from events access without entrance to the home.
Summer Kitchen- Our outdoor kitchen will be a great asset! We will be able to offer our guest other meals on site. Caterer's and chefs can use this space for cooking our Farm to table meals!
Riverside Fire Pits:
Our river side fire pits create 2 wonderful spots to enjoy the Allegheny River! View Eagles, Heron's or the many song birds that visit the riparian spaces!
Hot Tub:
Comfort and relaxation are in store for you while you soak in our large hot tub under the stars. The many jets massage your tired muscles and provide a sense of calm. Our , " BOTTLE WALL" which acts as a privacy scene is an art piece that our guest aided in its creation with their celebratory bottles that have been collected and utilized as material's. An OUTDOOR RESTROOM is another feature of cool design and function, created with recycled elements!
