Winter Get Away

Time slows......the northern wind blows across the Great Lakes and brings winter to our historic town of Emlenton. The nostalgic valley creates a beautiful back drop against the Hemlock covered mountains as the white veil of winter is draped upon the forest. Tiny lights from the homes fill the dark evenings like jewels on the hillsides of the terraced town.

The Barnard House is open year round and in this treasured season we take this slower paced time of the year to caterer to our guest and create a winter retreat. Imagine a warm cozy haven along the Allegheny River with lovely views of the rivers ,"Cake Ice" and frozen shoreline while you sip our local teas or fresh ground coffee.

Our breakfast of wonderful regional foods offer a broad palette of savory and sweet foods to warm your soul. Time passes as you relax and find peace while you ponder how your day will be filled with local recreation and cultural treats. Emlenton and the small quaint towns along the hillsides and river valley offer shopping, galleries, crafts and antiques. Hike the trails in our parks and along the river and streams while you marvel at winters spendor. There are many ways to fill a day or a weekend.

Be a hermit and retreat to our homes many Common rooms where you will find tons of reading material, scrabble, cards or spots to share conversation with friends. If technology drives you while you visit we offer WiFi and have cable TV with many channels to entertain you. If you need to unwind, escape to a soaking tub in the homes many bathrooms and climb into the bubbling massage of the seven person Hot Tub next to the historic Railroad wall found in the Barnard's back yard.

Venture outside and cuddle up to a warm fire along the river while the water calms your senses. We offer marshmallows, hot cocoa, hot tea and coffee at fireside. You may bring alcoholic beverages and enjoy a celebration as long as your fun is considerate of others while the fire heats your soul.

A special treat this winter season is our catered dinners. Created by our local chefs from Little Italy these harvest full course meals are offered for an additional fee. Little Italy will create a new menu monthly and each delicious meal is sure to make your evening a special occasion.

The Barnard House is a winter haven in the valley that changed the world. Come and spend time among the treasures that only a historic rural town can offer and make a memory that will lure you to return to our home along the river.
