Autumn and Winter in the Allegheny Valley

   The seasons change here in the valley and time slows. This provides great opportunities to pause and make time for special occasions. The valley offers itself to beautiful vistas and host some wonderful recreational opportunities. The trails remain clear and open for biking and walking. Bicycling is great but I like to walk and see the small changes in nature as the vegetation becomes sparse it becomes easier to spot wildlife.Cross country Sking and Snow Shoeing are always great options with snow cover! The small creeks are gorgeous for photos with ice formations and don't forget the river with its cool, "Cake Ice" that forms as the temperatures drop. The "Cake Ice" is circular ice formations that float and slowly build an edge similar to a Daiquiri glass with it's salted edge. The ice whispers in the river's valley and sounds like a room full of people in a library. When the sound stops the ice jams or bergs are forming. It's a magical experience to watch the transformation from fall to winter in the Allegheny Valley. 

  The Barnard House has a warm fire pit beside the river and blankets to snuggle. Hot cocoa and tea are offered along with marshmallows for toasting. The porch has comfy seating to sit as well. I like to snuggle in a blanket with my Gin n Tonic and watch the river flow by! The BnB is quiet at this time of year. We do have less guest so often the home is silent and peaceful. Our fantastic locally sourced breakfast are always a high light of our guest mornings. We cater to your time if you are our only guest and create a beautiful plate and service for you and your guest. The view of the river is offered in our Nook. The view often shares a treat of the Eagles. They winter here so they are fantastic to see fly or roost in trees as they fish in the river.

  We are an easy going couple that wants your stay here at The Barnard House to be memorable and refreshing. If you contact us with special needs we accommodate all if possible. If it is an Anniversary or Birthday we can help make that even more special with advanced notice. However you wish to make your stay with us we will certainly create a special time with our many talents.
